About the event
ThistleDew Farm was born unexpectedly when a small acreage became available in 2020. The soil was barren and lifeless, what little topsoil ever existed was no longer in evidence. Native prairie was stuggling and invasive species taking over the woodlands. Monoculture pine plantations were no longer valuable enough to harvest and the trees were diseased and falling. Oak wilt was destroying the hundred year oaks and the forest floor littered with tons of garbage and combustables. This is a farm tour to see where we are now, and where we are heading in our quest to restore the ecosystem, soil, and natural diversity. We will explore the techniques of managed intensive rotational grazing, biocomplete compost, silvopasture, biochar, hugelkulture, water harvesting, and renewable energy and their ability to restore and regenerate our small piece of land, and the role of regenerative agriculture in healing the earth. Join us for a guided farm tour and meet our workforce. Don't forget to bring a carrot for Don-key-Xoté our livestock guardian!
